1. Devotion Writing
Bethel prepares an Advent devotional booklet, as well as a Lenten or Pentecost booklet each year. These contain devotions written by members of the congregation. Volunteers are recruited and offered a choice of Bible passages to base their devotions on.

2. Worship Filming Technician
Members of the Video Team film the 9 a.m. worship service for live streaming and publishing to the web.

3. Worship PowerPoint Operator
Volunteers show the PowerPoint slides during worship services. The slides are prepared by the communications staff and/or volunteers.

4. Worship PowerPoint Prep Assistant
Assists staff in preparing PowerPoint slides for the upcoming services. Templates and slide content are provided by staff.

5. Worship Sound Technician
Saturdays and Sundays there is a sound technician in the sound booths (regular services and Gate of Life) that makes sure all the microphones are working and soloists, musicians and choirs have the appropriate
microphones. Other sound opportunities may be available such as funerals, weddings, concerts, etc. Plan to be at the church ½ – 1 hour before the worship service to make sure the sound system is ready. A schedule is prepared every 3 months. Time commitment is flexible based on individual availability.

1. Family Promise Rochester
Volunteer with families experiencing homelessness. Bethel provides volunteers to Family Promise at their shelter site, The North Star House, in NW Rochester.
Our volunteers choose from the following tasks: providing gift cards, grocery cards, ingredients and a recipe for the families to make their own meal, or meals prepared at restaurants for an evening meal. There are other short-term opportunities throughout the year such as hosting a family fun night at Bethel, volunteering at Life Skill classes, Miracle on 1st (adopting a family at the holidays), donation drives, and Family Promise has listed on their website links for both target and amazon wish lists for items needed for the shelter and families. For any volunteer opportunities directly working with families a virtual training is provided and a background check will need to be completed.

2. Meals on Wheels
To deliver hot, nutritious, and delicious noon meals to the community, Monday through Friday. Pick up meals at designated location, deliver to individuals in the community, and return the coolers provided by Family Services. Volunteers give about one hour, one day per week (schedule provided). Can also be on a substitute list to fill in as needed for regular drivers.

3. Neighborhood Outreach
Based on strong relationships within our community and immediate neighborhood, our Neighborhood Outreach Team identifies opportunities to provide monetary, food, and household items for children/youth, parents/ families, and older adults who are at risk or agencies that provide services for those not able to meet their daily needs. We receive requests from neighborhood schools, individuals, and agencies for these needs and receive generous donations from members and community resources to meet the ongoing needs. We look for collaboration and new opportunities to serve as many as we can. Volunteers and new members are always welcome! Monthly meetings, 2nd Tuesday; 6:30 p.m. in the Parenting Room.

4. Women’s Shelter
On the 2nd Friday of the month, Bethel provides casseroles (breakfast or dinner) for the clients of the Women’s Shelter, they need to be pre-cooked, microwave ready and in an aluminum foil pan. Casseroles are brought to the church office by 12-noon on the 2nd Friday of the month.

c. Men’s Ministry
Bible Study is a chance for Bethel Men to engage in God’s Word and be changed by it together. The group participates in mission work projects. Fellowship is God’s gift of the joy of being together in Christ. When we gather, there is usually a spirit of hearty laughter and good natured conversation. Please join us! 1. Sunday School Volunteer
Bethel offers Sunday School on Sunday mornings during the school year. Volunteers build relationships with students, lead activities related to the lesson, and lead a group of children from large group through small group activities. Materials and training are provided. Another way to help is assisting with preparation of supplies during the week for Sunday mornings.

2. Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Vacation Bible School is a high energy week in the summer of music, art, science projects, Bible stories, skits, games and more for kids in pre-school through 4th grade. Volunteers are needed to lead a small group of kids through the experiences, or you can lead a specific activity. We need many hands to set up, decorate and take down the vibrant decorations. Youth can start volunteering at 5th grade and adults of all ages are welcome.

3. Children’s Ministry Team
This team meets monthly to oversee the children’s ministry. Come build relationships with others who have a heart for passing on faith to children and their families. Team members provide a strategic plan for children’s ministry, share ideas, help plan events and recruit volunteers.

4. Leader for L.I.F.T. (Living in Faith Together)
Our Newly Named 5-6th Grade Ministry
Volunteers help 5th and 6th graders grow in faith while playing games, having meaningful discussions, serving, and applying bible stories to daily life. They meet weekly on Sunday mornings in the school year.

5. Youth Team member
Be part of a dynamic team, setting direction and planning middle and high school events, fundraisers, service projects and more. This team meets once per month, in person or on zoom.

6. Confirmation Small Group Leader
During the school year, we offer confirmation instruction for 7-8th graders on Wednesday nights. Pastors and youth directors lead large group activities and lessons that help youth to learn about faith in Christ. During small group discussions the adult leaders help foster a sense of community and belonging in a small group of 5-6 youth while sharing faith in relationships.

7. Mentoring
We offer opportunities for adults to mentor youth. You can share common hobbies, and faith conversations with young people that help both of you grow in faith while building a meaningful relationship.

2. Bethel Ensemble (formerly Orchestra) | High School Students – Adults:
This ensemble meets each Wednesday from 6:10 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in the sanctuary and presents musical offerings and hymn accompaniments at least once a month throughout the church year. All abilities and instruments are welcome and encouraged to attend. Bethel Lutheran Church is also blessed with a few loaner instruments, so if you played in Junior/Senior high and don’t have your instrument anymore, you can borrow one of ours. 3. Chapel Ringers | High School Students – Adults:
Rehearsals are each Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. in the sanctuary. This ensemble presents their musical offerings once a month at both the 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services. It is not a requirement to read music to play in this ensemble and all are encouraged to participate. 4. Blessings Women’s Choir | Elementary Students – Adults:
Open to all soprano and alto vocalists based on balance needed in the ensemble. This treble choir proclaims the Word of the Lord at least once a month, and rehearses on Thursdays from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the chapel. 5. Bethel Ringers | High School Students – Adults:

6. Chancel Choir | High School Students – Adults:
This ensemble meets each Wednesday from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the sanctuary. Lifting up the Word of God through song is our calling, and we do this through many different styles of music. This ensemble offers their gift of music at the 9 a.m. worship service regularly throughout the church year. 7. Cherub Choir | Ages 3 through 1st Graders:
This ensemble is a fun and educational way for children to learn music basics by singing, playing rhythm instruments and beginning choreography. 8. Choristers Choir | Grades 2 – 6:

9. Gate of Life Worship Team
For high-school students through adults. This ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists leads worship at 10:10 a.m. in the Chapel each Sunday and rehearses prior to the beginning of the service in the chapel. 10. Sing for Joy Men’s Choir | High School Students – Adults:

11. Solos, Duets, Trios, Quartets and Small Ensembles:
There is always a need for musical offerings throughout the church year and people of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to share the Word of God through song at any time. Music is an amazing way to celebrate scripture and enhance any worship service! 12. Selah Ensemble | Grade 5 through Adults (Families encouraged to participate):
A new choir here at Bethel that rehearses each Wednesday from 6:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary and sings each Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service. We invite youth in grades 5 up to adults and families to participate in this choir, with a focus each week on a choir piece that is current, upbeat and easy to learn in one rehearsal to enable participation as it fits into your schedule. 1. Altar Guild
This team serves to support the many aspects of worship space. This includes tending to the altar furnishings, banners, vestments and paraments, robes and various other aspects of the “holy things” that accompany our worship services. The team will meet as needed but have shared responsibilities related to the seasons of the church year.

2. Communion Bread Bakers
A group that gets together to bake the gluten free communion bread for weekend services once or twice a month for a couple of hours. Meet in the church kitchen, located in Bethel Hall.

5. Greeter

Van picks up members and friends who don’t have another way to get to and from 9 a.m. Sunday services at Bethel Lutheran Church.

6. Nursery
Help on Sundays: We offer a nursery for children
(6 weeks – 3 years old) during the 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services during the school year.
Help with Special Events: Sometimes the nursery is needed for special events. Volunteers are requested to help care for children during special events. Nursery staff and volunteers are trained and follow CYF Safety and Security Policy. Background checks are required for nursery workers and volunteers every 2 years.

11. Read Bible Stories to Children
On certain Sundays during the school year, we ask volunteers to come in and read Bible stories to children. This is a month by month commitment and takes about 15 minutes at the beginning of the Sunday School hour.

2. Bethel Christmas Tea Team
Bethel’s Christmas Tea Team schedules an annual Christmas Tea each December for the purpose of raising funds for five community-based missions chosen by the Tea Team. Meetings are held via Zoom once a month. Guests attending the Tea are treated to entertainment, Christmas lane vendors, and an afternoon Tea lunch served on beautiful tables decorated by volunteer hostesses.

7. Endowment Team
These are elected positions (at the Annual Meeting). The team meets the 4th Wednesday of the month, 7 a.m. in the church office Conference Room or via Zoom. The Endowment Team provides fiduciary oversight of the Endowment fund and directs all operational aspects in support of Bethel’s mission and ministry.

8. Fellowship Team
Helps serve cupcakes to the congregation during times of celebration for staff. Serving only a few times a year after church services on Saturday night or Sunday morning.

The Bethel Health Cabinet promotes the health and wellness of the Bethel congregation and the surrounding community. Members of the Health Cabinet include Bethel members in health related fields and other interested individuals.

11. Personnel Team

14. Stewardship Team
Meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month, 4:45 p.m., in the church office Conference Room. We work toward more effective and efficient giving to the missions of the church. We hold a “thank you” pancake or a pizza breakfast for the congregation on Intent of Giving Weekend Saturday/Sunday and other events to encourage all our members to give, and share their time and talents.

15. Worship & Music Team
Meets 4 times per year with meetings fitting the church calendar events at 5 p.m. in the church office Conference Room. Team primarily serves as an avenue of communication between various groups supporting worship (choirs/music, communion, usher, etc.)

16. Young in Spirit Board
This Fellowship Board meets as needed to plan future programs and menus.

17. Youth Ministry Team
We meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month, at 6 p.m. in the Adult Library at Bethel or via Zoom. This team helps to plan and implement middle school and high school milestones events, fundraisers, service projects, and more.

1. Bethel Women
Participate in various activities throughout the year. Activities include: Sunday Morning Coffee, Serve at Funerals, Rummage Sales (spring & fall), No-Bake/No-Craft sale and Monthly Missions supplying paper products and other items to various charities. The Women of Bethel have a board that meets quarterly, with various positions for service.

3. Representative for Growth & Outreach
Serves a 3 year term, attends council meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, 5:30 p.m. at Bethel or via Zoom. Works with Social Missions, Fellowship, Life & Growth and Bethel Women of the ELCA Teams.
4. Representative for Resources
Serves a 3 year term, attends council meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, 5:30 p.m. at Bethel or via Zoom. Works with Endowment, Properties, Finance, Personnel and Stewardship Teams.
